Golf Course Ownership..should government be involved? No!
Although I admire this country and enjoy living here, any government in my opinion, if left unchecked, has a habit of intrusion into the lives of individual citizens. An extreme example of this, of course, would be North Korea or Cuba where everything is owned by the government.
Socialism, naturally, is a less-extreme form of the aforementioned, but it is my thinking that government should not be involved in capitalist enterprise. When governments open businesses in the private sector, it forces privately owned businesses in the same field to compete with them. This can leave the privately owned businesses at a disadvantage, considering the resources available to the government.
Furthermore, if a municipal golf course loses money and decides to rescue its sinking ship, where does the bailout money come from? The taxpayer, of course.
